The Mission of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike is to provide high quality practical training to students to become professionally competent and confident persons capable of self-employment to develop environment-friendly and people-sensitive technologies and to enhance the well-being of the people through extension and other interventions. By so doing the Nigerian people and the entire world are being served.

By its significant presence in Umudike suburb within the Umuahia Metropolis, MOUAU is located equidistant to all the states in the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones of Nigeria. The University therefore, seeks to make a major contribution to economic, scientific and cultural life in these geopolitical zones. The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike is providing nationally the highest standards and enduring values of the University tradition. This University's mandate includes developing and offering academic and professional programmes leading to the award of diplomas, first and higher degrees. These programmes emphasize planning, adaptive, technical, maintenance, developmental and productive skills in agriculture, agricultural engineering and allied professional disciplines. The emphasis in these areas are aimed at producing socially mature graduates with capacity to contribute to the scientific transformation of agriculture in Nigeria with particular emphasis on the tropical rainforest and derived Savannah zones in the South-East agro-ecological zones of Nigeria.
