In our drive towards attaining ICT Directorate of Excellence the University has sponsored all staff of the university to participate in the Computerise All Nigeria Initiative (CANI) to own their personal Computers/Laptops/Notebooks. Within the first year of existence, the Directorate has trained and extended the Universal Mandatory Information and Technology Training to all graduating students for the 2007/2008 to equip them for their working life in the globalized environment. Sixty percent of the current and graduating Post Graduate students and over 20% of the current undergraduate students population have also been trained and the rest are undergoing the Universal Mandatory ICT training. The Directorate organizes National and International training and workshops. It is adequately equipped to host international workshops. For example, the Directorate successfully hosted the 2008 Training workshop for Access to Research Initiative/Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture/On line Access to Research in the Environment (HINARI/AGORA/OARE). The Directorate has capacity to extend internet access to the youths and women at the village level. The Directorate is to effectively use ICT at all levels of its operation to meet the challenges and opportunities of globalization in this agricultural university and to foster the provision of relevant and competitive tertiary education in agriculture and allied disciplines. It has planned to attain this aspect of its objectives, through incorporating relevant ICT content in the empowerment of women and the training of youth and children as effective ways of combating poverty, hunger and disease in the zone. |
