There are external challenges posed by forces outside the University system, including government, the private sector, globalization, etc. The University, therefore, has to grapple with the following:

• Inadequate funding by the Federal Government
• Inconsistent government policies on University administration, conditions of service, industrial relations, etc
• Poor performance of the economy and inflationary trends
• Government policy on students’ fees
• Lack of private sector and stakeholders’ support
• Weak linkage with the productive sectors of the economy and with other Universities and Research Institutes
• Poor and epileptic public utilities, such as water, electricity, etc
• Poor security
• Lack of access to acquired land due to non-payment of compensation to land owners
