4.1 The Initiative

One of the weaknesses of the University is “lack of strategic focus due to lack of a strategic plan” since the University started in 1994. The first successful attempt at deliberately and collectively charting the short-, medium- and long-term direction of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike came on September 11, 2006 with the inauguration by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ikenna Onyido, of a Task Force on a Strategic Plan for the University.

During the inauguration, task teams were constituted to address the following identified key components of the strategic plan:

  • Academic programmes
  • Research and Extension
  • Infrastructure
  • Services
  • Fund generation, linkages and University advancement
The overall term of reference of the Task Force was to produce a document that will guide the physical and academic development and other areas of University activity.
