Everyone present at the family meeting, a forum where the vice chancellor meets with members of the staff to discuss salient issues, have once again rejoiced with their colleagues as the vice chancellor Prof. Francis o. Otunta gladly announced to MOUAU community some members of the academic staff who were promoted to the professorial cadre after been rigorously assessed as is required.
In a similar vein, the new Ag. Chief security Officer (CSO) of the institution in the person of Mr. Smart Agwu was also introduced and urged to be up and doing in his new appointment as various security challenges currently need attention in the institution.
Going further, the vice chancellor touched on the very sensitive issues partaking the closure of some department in the university.
In his explanation ,the head of the institution ,took time to analyze the battles being fought with the National Universities Commission (NUC) which has the mandate to screen and approve courses run by individual universities ,stating that it was not his making that some departments were closed ,as these were never given accreditation from their inception by the regulatory body, hence then challenges faced by graduate when mobilizing for NYSC and during their service year, emphasizing the fact that the National Universities Commission has urged all specialized university to go back to the core –mandate for which they were established .
On the issue of salaries and deductions, Prof. Otunta asked all staff to be patient stating that t was all on account of the peculiar economic down-turn currently besieging the country but promised to make payment as soon as the university gets its proper allocation from the Federal Government, citing instances of other universities in the country currently undergoing same challenges as MOUAU.
In conclusion, He used the forum to thank God for all the support he has received from members of staff and colleagues for the past one year and pledged to improve on various ways of taking MOUAU to greater height .He urged them to remember always to pray for him and the university management to make wise decisions for the betterment of all.
Congratulating the newly promoted staff , he urged them to be steadfast in their new offices to enhance progress and quality education for which the university is renowned.
