The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike Women Association (MOUAUWA) has pledged to partner with the Prof. Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta-led administrations commitment to take the University to greater heights. Speaking when she led the executive members of MOUAUWA on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, the President of the women association in the University and wife of the Vice- Chancellor, Barr. Bertha Otunta disclosed that they came to reassure him of their readiness to work for the good of the University and pleaded with him to help the association realize their projects.

Barr. Otunta enumerated some of the objectives of the association to include, promoting health and wellness among staff and students, assisting the under privileged women and children in the University’s catchment areas, promoting peace and unity among staff and students, engaging in developmental projects in the University as well as widening the knowledge scope of women through their attendance and participation in conferences, seminars and workshops. The President of MOUAUWA who pleaded with the University management to restore the check-off dues of her members and assist her in the realization of some of her pet projects for the association namely, purchase of bus for MOUAUWA and the establishment of a skill acquisition centre that will help harness the entrepreneurial skills of female staff in the University and women in our host communities in order to empower them and sustain their families economically.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta applauded MOUAUWA’s modest achievements since its establishment and challenged them to come up with other innovative ideas that will set them apart among other female associations in our nation’s Universities. He commended them on the initiative to establish a skill acquisition centre, stressing that this will empower women especially those within our host communities and positively impact on our society as a whole. Prof. Otunta assured the executive members of MOUAUWA that the collection of their check-off dues which was previously stopped will be restored and promised that the University management shall always support their various projects.
