MOUAU VC COMMISSIONS ULTRAMODERN CAFST COMPLEX
It was a memorable day at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe commissioned the ultramodern College of Applied Food Science and Tourism (CAFST) complex.
While commissioning and handing over the project, the elated VC noted that the building which houses classrooms, offices, lecture halls and a modern laboratory, comes as a wonderful birthday present for him and would be helpful in the advancement of the College. He added that it is his desire in the future to provide the standard of food processing and preservation facilities that can be found at places like the Wageningin Agricultural University, Netherlands, where he did part of his Ph.D. work, to enhance productivity at the College, in line with global best practices.
Prof. Madu Ofo Iwe praised his predecessors, from Prof. O.C Onwudike to Prof. Francis Otunta, for their contributions toward the completion of the project, stating that they would be remembered by posterity for the efforts they had made. He advised staff present at the event to also do things for posterity sake, adding that they would benefit from their good deeds and right attitude in the future.
Speaking at the event, the contractor of the project, Mohammed Jammal, who is also the MD/CEO of Threemplus Ltd, expressed his delight at the unplanned coincidence of commissioning on the VC's birthday. He thanked the University for her support during the construction work. Jammal assured the University Management that his company would also be available to see to the maintenance of the building.
Present at the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Franca Elechi Asawalam, and the Dean of CAFST, Prof. Nneoma Obasi. Also present were the Director, Physical Planning (DPP), Arch. Benjamin Ezeaguba, among other staff of the University.
