Town and Gown Committee- an interactive forum for host communities of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture and the Institution has been inaugurated with a charge to solve the problem of land encroachment through dialogue and peaceful deliberations.

Inaugurating the Committee at the Senate Chambers of MOUAU, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Professor Anya Oko Anya noted that the reason for the establishment of the committee is to build a viable partnership between the communities and the University to grow a world class University.

He noted that another ambition of working together is to make MOUAU an eviable University which is achievable through peace and cooperation and in the process have a graduate in every family, adding that communities that welcome strangers always strive while those who refuse strangers never grow.

In a brief remark Chairman of the committee and member of the Governing Council Prof. Rasheed Ojukwutu who expressed profound appreciation for the confidence reposed on them, promised to deliver on their assignment, adding that progress and development can only come where there is peace. He said that the committee which is long overdue is starting work immediately making it clear that without the host communities the University cannot continue to exist on its own.

Adding his voice, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta charged the committee to ensure that there is always peace within and around the communities and the Universities at all times
