The new Governing Council of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has paid its first visit to the University after its long-awaited inauguration on September 8, 2022.
Commencing the 2-day visit on Monday, members of the 7th Governing Council, led by the Pro-Chancellor, Senator Abubakar Danso Sodangi, embarked on an assessment and familiarization tour of the University.
Speaking during the tour, Sen. Sodangi praised the Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe-led administration for the ongoing infrastructural development in the University, assuring the University of the Council’s unwavering support.
Sections of the University visited include the newly revamped fish farm where Sen. Sodangi urged students present to take to fishery as a viable source of income, citing his rewarding experience in fish farming.
Members of the Governing Council, in the company of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, other principal officers of the University, and the representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, were later hosted by Senator Chris Adighije at his Olokoro country home.
Addressing the audience during the courtesy visit, Sen. Sodangi described the host as an excellent politician and businessman who has been a valuable asset to the University.
In his remarks, Prof. Iwe recalled Sen Adighije’s role in assisting the University at a time of financial difficulty, stressing how his contribution helped the University generate funds that facilitated some of the projects of previous administrations.
Speaking further, the VC noted that the visit of the members of the Governing Council marked the commencement of its responsibilities in earnest, expressing optimism that they would collaborate with him to move the University forward.
Responding, Sen. Chris Adighije expressed delight at the visit. He described Sen. Sodangi as a man of impeccable character fit for the job of Pro-Chancellor of MOUAU and promised the visitors of his continuous support for the development of the University.
Other visiting council members (external council members) include Engr. Kevin Ikechukwu Ojobo, Chief David O. Emaniru, Aliyu Ahmed Shungurum, and Chief Leonard Nzadon.
