Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held on Tuesday at the Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim Auditorium of the University, the ICPC Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, represented by Assistant Commissioner ICPC, Imo State, Mrs. Chinwe Egbeocha, appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to support the new ACTU members by creating an enabling environment and providing adequate funds for them to function effectively.
The VC, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Udo Herbert, reiterated the commitment of the present administration to supporting the fight against corruption. He called for more awareness of the need for the entrenchment of good morals and ethical values, not only in the personal lives of Individuals but in the institution as a whole.
Prof. Iwe noted that corruption is not limited to stealing and embezzlement of resources alone, noting that shirking of responsibility, truancy, favoritism, and negligence of official duties were also corrupt practices that would not be tolerated in MOUAU.
The VC commended MOUAU ACTU Chairman, Professor K.J Simonyan, and other members for the advocacy, sensitization, and other programs they have introduced so far, charging them to expose every corrupt individual in the University.
On his part, a Principal Superintendent at the commission, Mr. Victor Obi, while speaking on the role of ACTU, noted that the establishment is the eyes of ICPC in MOUAU. He added that ACTU was designed to operate as an autonomous outfit, having a direct link with the office of the Chief Executives of respective establishments.
The high point of the occasion was the administration of the Oath of Office to the new MOUAU ACTU members by the representative of the ICPC boss, Mrs. Chinwe Egbeocha.
