The Training Unit was created to coordinate all ICT training activities in the Directorate and University at large. The training has been categorized into two: University-wide training (non-profit making) and Professional training (profit-making). These training categories serve their purpose adequately. The Training Unit has trained not fewer than Twenty Thousand (20000) final year graduating students since its inception. More so, not fewer than Eight Hundred (800) staff of the University—both teaching and non-teaching—have been given one IT skill or another at different times.
One of the mandate upon the shoulders of the Training Unit is profit making for the Directorate and to enable her make a reasonable Return on Investment (ROI).We have embarked on aggressive marketing of our training products on several ICT disciplines; such as Database Administration, Networking Administration, Web Development, IT Essentials and Software development. As at now several trainings are going on in the Unit such as Oracle 11g Database Administration, CISCO Networking Academy, Web Design, PHP, MySQL and Computer Appreciation.
The Unit for a couple of years have trained every student of the University in a mandatory ICT course tagged Universal Mandatory IT Training (UMITT), and we have never ceased receiving great testimonies about our graduate from employers. This UMITT exercise is usually finalized with a One-day workshop tagged “CaTalk” –a career seminar that has been designed to guide graduating students on how to prepare a salable resume that will wow their target employer, and how to excel in interviews, and beat the rigors of the labor market.
As part of our efforts to deliver our social responsibilities to the University community and host communities, the Unit’s arms are ever open to accept and render every available help to all SIWES students seeking industrial attachment with the Directorate. They are free to apply and learn from the wealth of experiences in the Unit and other units of the Directorate.
As ICT support unit we provide technical support and assistance for users of computer
