1.1 At Bayero University, Kano (BUK) and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU) and Covenant University (CU), Ota
i) During my tenure as HOD, Chemistry, BUK, MOUAU and Covenant University, I achieved the following:
· The Academic staff was convinced that Laboratory session with students was as important as teaching. The presence of academic staff during Laboratory class was achieved. This achievement added value to teaching and acquisition of skill by students.
· The Departmental results were sent to Faculty/College Board/Senate promptly.
· The promotion and welfare of our Departmental staff were met as required by Appraisal Committee.
· The Department held a get-together at the end of the session.
· The Department received many consultancy projects (from Raw Materials and Research Development Corporation, Lagos; Coca-Cola Plc Kano due to ability to scout for such projects from some industrial establishments.
· Personal interaction with staff for better understanding and trust
· Regular Departmental meetings to take decision on the affairs of the Department
· The Departmental Calendar of events were approved and circulated. This enabled staff plan in advance in order to meet the demands of the Department.
ii) AS DEAN CNAS MOUAU (2005 – 2009)
The office of the Dean during my tenure achieved:
· The registration of fresh students from all the Departments and issuance of matriculation numbers were achieved to the admiration of Senate.
· The collation and processing of results as approved by the College Board were processed promptly to Senate.
· By offering effective assistance to my six HODs to ensure, timely vetting and presentation of our College results to Senate.
The enviable records built up as the Dean CNAS with regard to prompt presentation of error-free results, received commendation severally at Senate. Departmental matters as it relates to staff and students were treated with dispatch.
· My efforts to process several years of unapproved results from the Departments at CNAS and creativity were commended by Senate
· Also, I attended the joint meetings of Deans of Faculties of Science in NUC during the period.
· Between 2005 and 2009, all nine programmes: Botany, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics and Zoology earned FULL accreditation from NUC.
· Instituting a viable and functional College Library during my tenure speaks for itself.
Staff and Students Welfare
The staff of the Department, namely, Academic, Technical and Administrative felt self-esteem by:
Ø Regular staff meetings at all levels;
Ø Enhanced entertainment was provided at meetings
Ø Honorarium was paid to staff from the proceeds of consultancy and reviews of laboratory manuals
Ø End-of-year party was held within the context of available resources.
Research Grouping
During my tenure as HOD, staff were encouraged to belong to groups of research discipline under the supervision of either Senior Academics. Assistant Lecturers to Lecturer I levels were encouraged to comply with the arrangement for rapid research productivity
iii) AS CHAIRMAN OF STUDENTS DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE (2008-2009)
Regular meetings of the Committee were held and cases investigated and treated with fairness and justice. Prompt submission of recommendation of deliberated cases to Senate.
1.2 ACADEMIC RESEARCH PRODUCTIVITY
Indeed, the major thrust of my University service is anchored on teaching and research, teaching being a routine daily duty within the session. However, research is another area of immense excitement.
My research emphasizes three broad themes, namely:
i) The basic and applied research for my academic advancement
ii) Second area aimed at solving community health problems
iii) Interdisciplinary inter institutional group research
· Basic and Applied Research
The academic research projects are concentrated on my areas of teaching which is aimed at academic advancement of knowledge in the areas: Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Natural Product Chemistry and Pesticide Chemistry.
o I have recorded 109 publications in International High Impact Outlets in this area of research productivity.

Current Research Work:
Considering the efficacy of some tropical plants in the production of agricultural pesticides as well as medicinal formulation by traditional medical practitioners, a methodology for the production and administration of plant based drugs is being developed in close collaboration with Scientists at a centre of excellence such as the Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) Lucknow India .This will go a long way in reducing the over dependence of the populace on expensive and (of course) imported drugs. Isolation, characterization and clinical application of some medicinal natural products with a special focus on their anti-cholinesterase, anti-tuberculosis, anti-cancer, antiviral, antimalarial, antifungal and antibacterial activity are in progress. Based on their ethnomedical history, freshly powdered leaves, twigs, stem and roots of Momordi cacharantia, Euphobia hirta, Combretum herbaceum, Cochlospermum tinctorium, Cassia occidentalis, Xylopia aethiopica, Cyperus platicaulis, Trianthema pentendra, Anogeissus leiocarpus, Carallium dalzeilli, Piliostigma thoningii, Dioclea reflexa, Pavetta crassipes etc. obtained from Northern Nigeria are currently being explored with a vision to introduce non-resistant agents for the treatment of various human and veterinary infections; with major emphasis on Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Also in progress is the development of new bioactive molecules and heterocycles; and novel synthetic methods using organophosphorus chemistry.

Diastereoselective Catalytic-Epoxidations, diastereoselective Ring expansion and rearrangements, stereoselective synthesis and biconfirmationality studies. Studies of the sequence-specific three dimensional structures of comparatively short nucleic acid sequences (generally less than ~20 base pairs in length) and some pertinent protein complexes which can be determined using NMR techniques in combination with computational tools. Clinical chemistry of commercial plant-protection formulations based on natural products extracts; as well as activity guided synthesis and physiological studies of novel heterocycles possessing appreciable chemotherapeutic values. Control of irrational use of traditional medicines and modifying the existing pharmacopeia of medicinal plants in Nigeria.
