It was a time for eulogizing the achievements of a distinguished academic, yesterday, when the University’s College of Agric Economics, Rural Sociology and Extension (CAERSE) honoured her pioneer dean, Prof. Aloysius Chidi Nwosu.
In his welcome speech at the lecture and book launch held in honour of Prof. Nwosu, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, represented by the DVC (Academic), Prof. Udo Herbert, congratulated the honouree for his achievements during his time in the University.
Speaking at the event which held at the Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim Auditorium of the University, the Chairman of the Occasion and Provost of the Abia State College of Education (Technical) Arochukwu, Dr. Philips Nto described Prof. Aloysius Nwosu as an excellent scholar who has groomed many outstanding young persons.
While welcoming the guests, the Dean of CAERSE, Prof. Marie-Stella Njoku extolled the exemplary leadership qualities of the pioneer dean of the College, stating that the College adopted him as a father and role model.
In his lecture, the former Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, represented by his wife, Prof. Chinyere Nwajiuba, outlined various causes of food insecurity in the country.
Delivering the lecture titled, “Continued Food Insecurity and Underdevelopment in Africa, in Changing Contexts of Climate Change, Socio-Political Conflicts and Wars”, on behalf of her husband, Prof. (Mrs.) Nwajiuba stressed that the political issues impeding Nigeria’s development must be resolved for the country to move forward in the area of food production.
On his part, the chief launcher and Enugu State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Matthew Idu thanked Prof. Nwosu for imparting him with the requisite knowledge and skills which he said helped him attain various leadership positions.
The celebrant, Prof. Aloysius Nwosu thanked the College for honouring him, describing the gesture as one of the most remarkable in his career.
The highpoint of the event was the unveiling and launching of the book titled “Innovation Agriculture for Structural Transformation in Nigeria” in honour of Prof. Nwosu. The book reviewer, Prof. Ike Nwachukwu described it as a blueprint for the transformation of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
Gift items were presented to the honouree by representatives of the College of Agric Economics, Rural Sociology and Extension.
