Ruth Ede of the Department of Agricultural Education, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike has beaten other contestants across the globe to emerge as second runner-up in an International Food Safety competition held in Denmark.
Ede, who is a member of the MOUAU Debate Club, MOUAU GreenFm Student-Staff Crew and a fellow of the Ugwumba Leadership Center, had earlier emerged as the overall winner in Nigeria’s version of the EatSafe Innovation Challenge
which qualified her to represent Nigeria in the global finals in Denmark, where she made 2nd runner-up.
The award winner hails from Awara, Ohaji Egbema LGA in Imo state Nigeria.
Ruth Ede is currently amongst the set undergoing their final clearance at the University and getting ready for the one-year compulsory Youth Service.
The Ohaji Egbema-born student has participated in several competitions including:
US Government Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative themed: “Feed the Future”, where she emerged as Nigeria’s Overall Winner.
Ede was the only female and undergraduate who made it to the finals of “Catchy Creativity” hosted by Innovate for Africa at Yenagoa, where she won a million naira.
The award-winning student was also selected as one of the top 15 in Tony Elumelu Foundation’s Audacious African Women making an impact in the corporate field, business, and entrepreneurship through her research innovation firm, Scratop, a company that utilizes and converts bio-waste into healthy soil food for rich fertilizer.
Responding to her remarkable achievement, Ruth Ede expressed joy that the journey which started in April 2022 ended in celebration. She maintained that the competition was a platform where she had great learning which
enriched her experience.
Speaking further, the multi-talented student appreciated the organizers of the competition for the opportunity given to her to participate. She also thanked her team members at Scratop Nig. Ltd. for contributing to her success at the competition.
Ruth Ede who served as the 2020/2021 President of the Michael Okpara University Debate and Public Speaking Club was also the only female finalist among 7 males at the 2022 All Nigerian Universities Debate Competition (ANUDC), where her debate team clinched national trophies for the University. She has on several occasions represented MOUAU in many other competitions
