2019/2020 SWEP: VC APPLAUDS ENGINEERING STUDENTS, COMMISSIONS CEET CAR WASH BAY

The Vice-Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike has commissioned an ultra-modern CEET Car Wash Bay built by the students of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. The VC who was represented at the commissioning ceremony by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Udo Herbert, expressed satisfaction with the numerous Students Work Experience Programme (SWEP) projects initiated and completed by the students of the College. Prof. Madu Ofo Iwe described the CEET Car Bay as a welcome initiative that will generate revenue for the progress of the University.

The Dean of the College, Prof. Kayode Simonyan thanked the VC for coming to commission the project and for his efforts towards uplifting the University. Prof. Simonyan emphasized that the objectives of SWEP are to expose the students to all aspects of engineering practices through innovative and creative skills relevant to their program.

In his response, the VC appreciated the support of the Dean and Heads of Departments of the College in the actualization of the project, urging the students to exhibit a high degree of customer relations skills so as to win and sustain patronage for the bay.

Projects executed during the 2019/2020 SWEP session include two underdecks for storage of hand tools and workshop equipment, metal protectors for the new CEET Workshop, repairs of some portions of the Boulevard Road leading to the College, and desilting of the drainages in the University. Others are palliative work done on the College swampy environment and the construction of curbs along the Boulevard Road.
