ACADEMIC QUALITY ASSURANCE COMMITTEE TOURS COLLEGES, URGE STAFF TO SHUN UNETHICAL PRACTICES

The Academic Quality Assurance and Monitoring Committee has charged Deans and Heads of Departments in the University to be committed to the discharge of their duties and responsibilities, to ensure that the institution meets global best practices in education. The chairman of the eleven-man committee, Professor C. O. Ofor, made the call, yesterday, at the kick-off of a sensitisation exercise across the 54 departments in the 10 Colleges of the University.

Prof. Ofor, while handing down the terms of reference of the Committee to the Colleges, said the exercise is meant to reposition the University to a higher status of academic excellence.

Speaking further, Prof. Ofor frowned at the situation where academic staff prioritizes their secondary assignments which are outside the purview of the University over their primary responsibilities. He implored the Deans and Heads of Departments to shun unethical practices and ensure that lectures, administration of curriculum assessments, examinations, as well as grading of students are done in line with the rules and regulations of the University.

The Dean, College of Applied Food Science and Tourism, Prof. Nneoma Obasi; Dean, Animal Science and Animal Production, Prof. K. U. Amaefuna among other Deans, Deputy Deans and Heads of Departments expressed satisfaction with the mandate given to the Committee to improve academic activities in the University. They assured the Committee of their full cooperation to make its assignment a successful one.
